This photo is taken on the Umbrail, showing the summit of Stelvio high in the background.
Both sides of Stelvio have numerous spectacular hairpin bends - to the west these are heavily engineered to climb out of a gorge, to the east (below) the road is narrower and rather rough as the bends claw up the mountainside towards the summit.
