St Nizier
 
A gateway road in or out of the Vercors and a way into the heart of the Alps, avoiding Grenoble, although you get good views over the town on the way down.

Its hard to find any alternative to this route, but even so it's not too busy. The Furon route takes most of the traffic, and in between there's the Tunnel du Mortier, which is impassable to motor vehicles.

Taken as a climb, its surprisingly tough, we've climbed this more times than we care to remember, and it always hurts.
