The s-w side is now quite a hard climb, as recent landslips have forced a change in the route and there are some steep bits. This tunnel through the snow is now buried under a new mountainside.
The n-e side has several alternative options, with the direct road passing through several dark tunnels. One option uses the other side of the valley altogether and crosses the Col du Mollard
Look out for the Col du Sabot, a new 2100m pass linking to the south side.
