Col de Proncel
1100 metres

An uninteresting col from either direction. In fact when the Vercors is stacked with such dramatic scenery, this is quite remarkable for its dullness. And from the south it's no climb to speak of, either.

But the town of La Chapelle at one end of the pass, and the village of Vassieux at the other, are both stacked with reminders of the French Resistance and some of the really terrible things that happened here, back in the 1944.
There's a small war-graves cemetery at the southern end of the pass, with some aeroplane wreckage to act as a memorial.
