Gorges du Nan

Nan, or Nant.

Very dramatic gateway to the Vercors, on the northern edge, though a bit isolated from most of the other best roads. It's a very big climb, or a helter-skelter descent.

Riding down, first there is a grand spiral round the base of a high cirque, see second picture here.
Then the road funnels down through the village of Malaval and some hairpin bends ...
and then (next pages) squirts out through the narrow gorge itself, another example of a typical Vercors 'vertigo road' to rival those at the Grands Goulets or the upper Gorges de la Bourne.
