A main road pass that we haven't crossed yet, but here are photos by Györgyi Gábor and a description by
Mark Gunther:
"The Tonale, while not spectacular, still is surrounded by 3,000 meter peaks and is a lovely pass on a main link (with shoulders!) between the Alps and Dolomites. I climbed the West side, only 9K and a steady, not very steep ascent.
It begins almost right at the bottom of the Gavia descent. The descent of the East side was very long, over 30K to Male at 740m, and quite exciting as there were very few hairpins and many long, straight stretches.
The top of Tonale is a ski station."
Györgyi adds:
"The second part of the climb and the first 10 kms of the slope (to east) provides
beautiful views to the snows, rocky peaks of the Brenta Dolomites. (see pics)"
