This through route straddles the France/Italy border - in Italy it is signed Colle Maddelena.
It's a long and easy climb on the Italian side, which doesn't really take off until you are almost at the top. Reputedly busier than most alpine roads, but it was OK on a Sunday when we crossed.
The French side is the more scenic.
